What Happened to Hank?

 

          A gunshot!!!

          It seemed like the whole world went silent after the gunshot.  It was the weirdest feeling.  Smokey’s whiskers wouldn’t stop twitching and her pals were just stunned!  Their fur went up and it didn’t seem like it’d be down soon.  They couldn’t hear Hank anymore!  The sounds completely disappeared  and Smokey swore she heard humans laughing! What happened to Hank?

          Sammy was scared.  “What are we gonna do?”  he meowed.

          “What do you think happened to Hank?”  asked Vince.

          “He might be dead,” Sammy meowed softly.

          “We hafta go look,” meowed Smokey in that determined ‘got the claws out tone.’

          “The humans might shoot us!”  Sammy wailed, sounding like a kitten but he did have a really good point!

          “I’ll go by myself,” meowed Smokey who was already headed down Hank’s path.  Again, she had to find out what happened and she thought that her new pals would automatically follow her.

          But surprise, she was on her own!

          The boys were just standing there, watching like they had their paws stuck to the ground.  Smokey didn’t have to go that far anyway bepaws just over the little hill she saw a really strange lump on the ground!
