In Control

“Wellz,” the Mayor meowed, “are youz stillz gonna actz like a goof?”

The cat stared at them with whiskers twitching.  “What’s that supposed to mean?  Being a goof?”

“You should be able to see that we’re not a threat,” Casey meowed.

More whisker twitching, “You two can’t stay here.”

The Mayor was really getting ticked off.  “Why???”

That’s when the cat meowed out something so shocking that Casey’s fur stood up on edge.  The Mayor’s mouth was sort of hanging open.  The cat, whose name happened to be Joey, informed them that the entire island had been taken over by birds.

          Whaaaaaaaaaat?”

          BURDS????

How was that paws-ible?  How could it have been taken over by burds?

Joey informed them that the biggest, ugliest and strangest burds had taken over the island a couple of months ago.  A lot of the cats the gang had met left the island or disappeared!

          The Mayor was sweating.  “Diz-appeared?”

Joey nodded.  “These birds are eating everything.”

Casey felt sick.  “So are you the only cat left?”

“No,” he answered, “a lot of us are in hiding.”
