Surprise!

         She pawed up to it quickly and it was her worse fear!  It was Hank!  To Smokey, he looked like he was dead!  His eyes were closed and he wasn’t breathing!  She pawed at him.  No response.   She meowed really loud and there was nothing.  Suddenly, for some strange reason, she just gave him a huge paw whack on the nose.

          His eyes popped open.

          That scared the meows out of Smokey, who ended up jumping about 10 feet in the air, which was understandable.  After all, being up close to a hippo when he opens his eyes would scare the living meows out of any cat!  She even let out a huge, “Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-owwwwwwwww!”  And that could have possibility shattered the sound barrier.

          Now, the best part of the whole thing, was that Hank actually stood up.  He hadn’t been shot at all!  Apparently in the chase, he tripped, went splat and hit his head on a rock.  You could almost see the stars over his head.  He was even wobbly.  “What-what happened?”  he asked.

          “We thought you got shot!”  Smokey meowed.  “We heard a shot!”

          Hank looked at Smokey in disbelief.  “Don’t remember a shot.”

          If Smokey could’ve gotten away with it she would’ve ran up and hugged Hank.  “You okay?”

          “Wha-what happened to the humans?”
